Ethan Biery

Ethan Biery (United States of America)

Ethan Biery graduated with a Bachelors and Masters of Science from Lehigh University. His career at Lutron Electronics started with embedded hardware and software design for commercial lighting control products, including work on various wired and wireless systems protocols. Product design was his initial exposure to the impact that standards can have on the product development process. Over time, Ethan became familiar with LED lighting technology, becoming involved in related standards development projects through Zhaga (an international consortium of lighting manufacturers) and NEMA (the US-based National Electrical Manufacturers Association). As a US National Committee expert for IEC SC 23B, he is helping ensure that globally-developed lighting controls and LED light sources meet customer safety, reliability, and performance requirements.

Adam Hamilton

Adam Hamilton (South Africa)

Adam holds Honours in a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town. He also completed a Business Driven Action Learning course with Gordon Institute of Business Science. During University, Adam received a bursary from Eskom Holdings Limited for his last two years of study and got experience in the manufacturing industry - with Praga Technical - where he spent time gaining exposure and understanding of the engineering principles used in this industry. During that time Adam had an opportunity to train at their power station and that became the foundation experience for his enjoyment and passion for energy. Over the last two years Adam has been working for Eskom Holdings limited. Since the start of 2013, Adam has been on a yearlong externship development programme with McKinsey & Company producing strategy, completing lean optimisation studies and supporting a site management team to build 800MW unit. In 2012, Adam joined the Eskom Generation Division where work as a Turbine system engineer at power station. He was the Power Station Enhancement Programme team which is focused on taking improving station performance, building the strategy and completing an implementation plan to roll out the 5 enhancement initiatives. In his free time, Adam enjoys fly fishing, reading, and work for his community.
