Abstract

This document specifies definitions of terms and introduces evaluation methods for each of the parameters that must be assessed and compared in order to predict whether, if two electrical systems, networks or components were to be connected via only two power terminals, each would operate reliably as intended, and that they would meet all relevant safety requirements – and that they would continue to meet safety requirements in the event of any foreseeable fault in either part. This document is limited to LVDC or ELVDC connected via two power terminals with the possible addition of a protective earth connection and data communication between the components. (Subsequent documents may remove these limitations to include LVAC, multiple voltage supplies, etc.) This document also defines a coding system to be used to encapsulate all of the necessary parameters that must be known about each component into a data packet, and the logic to be used in a software package that will compare two data packets to produce a simple non-technical statement of compatibility or non compatibility, and an indication of the action required to remedy the situation, if that is possible. This document does not include specifying the permissible values for those parameters. It is rather intended that the document shall provide a framework within which any observed values for these parameters may be reported.
