Safety of wind turbines power converters


This part of IEC 61400 applies to Power electronic converter Systems included in the drive train system of wind turbines (WPECS) where a uniform technical level with respect to safety is necessary.

This standard defines the minimum requirements for the design and manufacture of WPC for protection against electric shock, energy, fire, mechanical and other hazards, during installation, normal operating conditions and maintenance for expected lifetime of the WPECS.

This standard is applicable to all type of utility interactive applications WPECS´s and with voltage up to 36kV, a.c.(50-60Hz) or install in offshore and onshore wind turbines.

This standard cover “machine side converter” and “grid side converter”.
