LED product interactions

The Advisory Group (AG) LED Product Interactions advises on tasks assigned to it by TC34 with respect to LED operating aspects of the standards for which the Technical Committee is responsible for. Liaison to SC34A WG4 and SC34D WG LUMEX is to be required. The AG will advise on any future correspondence with TC31/WG40. Reporting back to TC34, the AG is tasked to investigate and to provide advice on how to handle the following topics: • LED abnormal/fault conditions: In SC 34A WG PRESCO meetings in 2016 the issue of LED fault / abnormal operating conditions was raised. Experts from the controlgear and luminaire communities asked for support from light source experts in solving a perceived problem with potential overheating of LED arrays at end of life. Some experts considered that this should be looked at holistically and that a joint action is necessary. • New and retrofit lamps and fit systems: Several experts raised concerns and were of the opinion that “ground rules” were needed for the use of existing and new cap/holder systems with LED lamps for new and retrofit applications. • Thermal issues lamp/luminaire: Experts looking at G5/G13 mains-connected lamps came to the conclusion that thermal alignment between non-retrofit lamps and luminaires need to be addressed before adequate standards covering the safety of any new lamps and luminaires can be written.
