International Standards and Conformity Assessment for all electrical, electronic and related technologies

In view of the global situation regarding the spread of Covid-19, the Swiss Government declared an ‘extraordinary situation’ for the entire country and adopted a series of unprecedented measures, including the closure of most shops, the introduction of strict border checks and the deployment of armed forces. The IEC therefore anticipates for all its staff to work remotely for several weeks, subject to regular reviews of the situation.

The IEC Central Office in Geneva is following the instructions of WHO, the Swiss Federal Government, the Government of the Canton of Geneva and will comply with any additional measures imposed. We will regularly communicate as the situation develops. Increasing travel restrictions and social distancing measures directly impact our ability to hold face-to-face meetings.

Meetings at IEC CO

IEC staff has been asked to limit office visits and meetings with visitors to the absolute essential, giving preference to virtual meetings. Staff is also requested to practice social distancing of at least 2 meters and follow WHO instructions in terms of hygiene.

Governance meetings

The situation is reviewed continuously, and members are regularly updated both in terms of dates and the form these meetings may take.

International travel

The IEC continues to discourage all non-essential travel due to the risk of people remaining stranded. Virtual meetings are encouraged, whenever possible, as a replacement.

These decisions have been taken to safeguard the health and wellbeing of people in the IEC community and to ensure the business continuity of our organization. The extension of these measures will be reviewed and communicated on a regular basis.
