International Standards and Conformity Assessment for all electrical, electronic and related technologies

How we work

The IEC has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding with ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) and IAF (International Accreditation Forum), two federations of accreditors. The purpose is jointly to achieve economies and higher quality services, especially in the shared domain of assessments of laboratories and certification bodies. The IEC CA (Conformity Assessment) Systems therefore collaborate closely with IAF and ILAC. To organize the work, the three organizations form a joint Steering Committee currently chaired by the IEC.

The UNECE (UN Economic Commission for Europe), especially its Working Party 6 on standards, regulations and conformity assessment, brings together regulators from UN member states, not only from Europe. Since it considers standards and conformity assessment of the first importance, it emphasizes cooperation with the IEC and ISO, as well as the IEC CA Systems specifically.

In 2009 it officially recognized the role of the IECEx System in the Common Regulatory Objectives it has published for member states in the area of hazardous environment regulations.
