ONE-DAY TRIP TO AGRA (31st January 2009)
Delhi to Agra is approximately 205 Kms and the drive takes 4:30 – 5 hours to reach Agra. The trip lasts from 06:00 to 21:30.
The city of Agra, the quintessence of the grand Mughal era, reigns to this day in the public mind as the embodiment of Royal Grace, imposing architecture and power. But it is for that superb white marble tomb known as the Taj Mahal, built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, that Agra occupies a mystic stature in the world’s imagination. After his first sight in 1857 of the Taj inlaid with semi-precious stones, Lord Robert wrote, “Neither words nor pencil could give to the most imaginative reader the slightest idea of the all satisfying beauty and purity of this glorious conception. To those who have not already seen it, I would say - go to India. The Taj alone is worth the Journey ....” |

Following breakfast, you will proceed to Agra, the city of love (210 Kms / 4 hours approx.)
On arrival check in to the hotel. Post this visit Taj Mahal (CLOSED ON FRIDAYS). Taking 22 years and 20,000 men to build, the white marble was quarried 200 miles away and was transported to the site by a fleet of 1000 elephants. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as an expression of his love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, in mid 17th century, the Taj Mahal is truly one of the wonders of the world. Though the Taj appears to be amazingly perfect from almost any angle, it is the close-up marble inlay work, which is really astounding. You will have ample time to view and be mesmerized by this outstanding piece of architecture and to later assemble with the whole group for a photograph with the Taj as a backdrop. Post Taj Mahal visit Agra Fort.
