Converting images to a different format
The IEC Figures team needs editable image files for their work, that is, images whose lines and text can be modified. Normally, these are files in the native format of the application in which they were produced, such as .vsd/.vsx for MS Visio, .ppt/.pptx for MS PowerPoint etc.
Native image files need to be provided as separate files, not integrated into the Word document.
In the Word document, however, non-editable images need to be inserted. These are images in formats whose text and lines cannot be modified, such as .jpg or .tif.
Different image processing tools have different options to convert their original format into other formats, but generally, there will be an option (mostly in the menu called "File" or similar) like "save as" or "export", allowing you to select a different file type (such as .jpg, .tif etc.). Sometimes you need to specify a few extra options concerning image size and quality. Then your file will be saved in the selected format.
Here is an illustration for MS Visio:
1) Select File > Save as
2) Under Save as type: choose the desired format
3) Click Save and, if required, set the necessary parameters
You can find some of the information the application may ask for under Image quality. However, do not worry if you are not sure about all the parameters. By sending in the original, modifiable files, you ensure that the IEC Figures team can optimise the images for publication wherever necessary.
