Figure designation
(The full requirements are described in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2, clause 6.6.5 Figures.)
Authors need to be able to refer to each figure in a document in an unambiguous way. Therefore each figure needs a unique designation.
A figure has to be labelled "Figure". The caption can comprise a figure title.
Example:
Place the caption below the figure, and apply the style Figure caption from the IEC standard template.
Figures have to be numbered sequentially in the order in which they appear in the document. The numbering is independent of the subclauses in which they appear.
For annexes, the figure number is preceded by the annex letter and starts at "1" within each annex (see Directives, 5.2.6).
