Removing technical barriers to trade

The WTO TBT (Technical Barriers to Trade) Agreement is of particular significance in the technological field.

The TBT Agreement tries to ensure that regulations, standards, testing and certification procedures do not create unnecessary obstacles in international trade. The fact is that  different regulations and standards make life difficult for producers, importers and exporters.

That’s why standardization and the assessment of conformity to standards are an important part of the TBT Agreement and its global trade agenda. All signatory governments are required to participate in, and actively promote, international standardization.
