Smarter grids

Smarter grids

Aging infrastructures need to be modernized. Take the electrical grid for example. In most countries, they were put in place in the 1950s or 1960s and will soon be unable to meet today’s energy consumption needs. The development of Smart Grid projects is accelerating in many countries.

Smart Grids are being promoted by many governments as a way of addressing energy independence. They are also indispensible to integrate renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. The IEC is deeply involved in all major Smart Grid projects around the world and IEC Standards play an important role in all of them.
