IECQ Executive Secretary special guest at the German National Committee’s IEC 1906 Awards presentation

The IEC 1906 Award honours
experts whose work is fundamental
to the IEC

While it is important to maintain clear separation between standards development and CA (Conformity Assessment) activities, there are occasions where dialogue between the two functions is a must.

This need is no more prevalent than in the area of avionics, where IEC TC (Technical Committee) 107: Process management for avionics, recently published the second edition of IEC TS 62239, Process management for avionics - Preparation of an electronic components management plan. IECQ, the IEC Quality Assessment System for Electronic Components, operates the highly-specialized IECQ ECMP (Electronic Component Management Plan) Scheme as a means of verifying compliance with IEC TS 62239 by aviation industry suppliers.

This need saw IECQ Executive Secretary Chris Agius attend the TC 107 meeting that was held in Frankfurt last November. Agius said that input to the standards development process by CA was a must to ensure that if any difficulties are encountered or clarification of requirements are needed when using the standards, they are fed back to the TCs rather than having the CA Systems trying to develop their own interpretations.

The timing of the TC 107 meeting coincided with the German NC’s (National Committee) IEC 1906 Awards ceremony, which Agius was invited to attend. The IEC 1906 Award honours IEC technical experts around the world whose work is fundamental to the IEC. It is also an opportunity to recognize exceptional and recent achievements ─ a project or other specific contribution ─ related to the activities of the IEC, which contribute in a significant way to advancing the IEC’s work. The event was hosted by DKE, the German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE, with Bernhard Thies, Secretary of the German NC, presenting awards to the following recipients:
