Geneva, Switzerland, 2017-02-19 The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) has added its voice to the gender equality initiative, International Gender Champions.

Frans Vreeswijk has become a gender champion, part of International Gender Champions, a leadership network that brings together female and male decision-makers to break down gender barriers.

“Women deserve to have an equal say in the technologies that drive our future. The IEC is proud to join the Geneva Gender Champions initiative to strengthen the participation of women in IEC technical work and to make IEC International Standards more relevant to women around the world,” said Frans Vreeswijk, General Secretary & CEO, of this new role.

Vreeswijk also stated that he is happy to join this initiative and to commit to:

– reach out to all IEC members to increase their awareness regarding the importance of participation of women in IEC technical committees

– train Technical Officers to encourage IEC technical committees to adopt a more gender balanced approach in all relevant IEC International Standards

– reach out to IEC members to encourage them to consider gender balance when sending participants to the IEC Young Professionals Programme

International Gender Champions is a network of decision-makers to lead by example through concrete actions that lead to genuine change both in organizational culture and in programming.
