Open to all, the competition involved designing a poster on the theme “Less waste, better results – Standards increase efficiency”.

The competition’s organizer, the WSC, comprises the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and ITU (International Telecommunication Union).

The winner of the first prize of CHF 1 500 is Aildrene Tan (Philippines).

Runners up receiving CHF 500 each are:

  • The team of Anadi Trikha and Rajesh Kumar (India)
  • Frederica Scott Vollrath (Germany)
  • Louis-Emmanuel Pavard (France)

The winner, Aildrene Tan, describes himself as a naturally curious explorer and a highly engaged graphic designer. He finished his Bachelor's degree in Geography from the University of the Philippines in 2011, and has been travelling ever since. His thirst to discover new places and immerse himself in different cultures translate into his work as a graphic designer and communicator. He loves to explore new and diverse ways to convey ideas, while ensuring that any messages are delivered in ways that can be easily understood in various contexts.

His poster will be used to illustrate and promote World Standards Day 2012 around the world.

The competition was promoted via social media. Twenty-two finalists were selected by the WSC, and the public was invited to vote online to choose the winner.

The World Standards Cooperation was set up in 2001 in order to strengthen and advance the voluntary consensus-based International Standards of IEC, ISO and ITU. Each year on 14 October, the members of IEC, ISO and ITU celebrate World Standards Day, to raise awareness and pay tribute to the thousands of experts worldwide who develop International Standards.
