Launch of new IEC Webstore
Entirely new look. Much faster. Advanced search option. Personalised. The new IEC webstore site is launched
Geneva, Switzerland, 2009-02-24 – The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) – the world’s leading organization that prepares and publishes International Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies and that manages global conformity assessment systems – has launched a new version of its IEC Webstore. The new store is a response to end-user feedback and based on the results of a survey conducted in 2008 which benchmarked the IEC Webstore against other leading online suppliers.
The launch coincides with the 10th anniversary of the online store. Ten years ago, the IEC was revolutionizing the world of electrotechnical standards and moving from a paper-based environment to an electronic one where customers could place orders for standards online. Since February 1999, the IEC Webstore has proved to be extremely successful, selling CHF 21 million worth of International Standards.
Graphically, the website has been given an entirely new look. The layout, the colours – blue and grey – were inspired by the new visual approach initiated by the IEC since its Centenary in 2006.
On a functional level, purchasers can place orders faster, with fewer clicks than before but greater visibility of all the possible options. There are simple search tools that provide a variety of alternatives to help IEC customers purchase standards online or to consult the previews before they order:
- Most popular categories: listed by subjects such as safety, testing or household
- Recent publications: listed by number under the heading "Just Published"
- News items: recently issued collections or special discounts, IEC Standards+ items, corporate offers
An advanced search tool provides further refinement with the possibility to select publications on the basis of header references such as IEC or CISPR, TC (Technical Committee) numbers or their titles, and ICS number references or their code titles. A further possibility lets the customer enter publication date ranges, thus making it easy, with a minimum of input, to obtain precisely the publication that is wanted.
A single click on one of the documents listed in the search results provides publication details, such as formats available (electronic, hardcopy or database), price, abstract and so forth. At all times during the purchasing process, the contents of the shopping basket is visible, so that customers know exactly where they stand in relation to publications ordered and costs.
Because the order streaming process works in real time, once an order for an electronic copy has been completed, the publication is available for use almost instantaneously. Paper versions of publications are shipped within one working day.
Finally, for those who want to keep up to date on future IEC matters, on the personal page where customers create their profile, there is a subscription button for mailing lists to automatically receive IEC news releases and newsletters such as e-tech, Just Published and TC News.
New functionalities are expected to be added in the coming month, so please visit the IEC Webstore at http://webstore.iec.ch for new features.
