Boeing backs IECQ
Geneva, Switzerland, 2008-03-11 – The Boeing Company has confirmed that holding IECQ certification for an Electronic Component Management Programme (ECMP) under IEC's Conformity Assessment System will satisfy electronic component management requirements for Boeing Commercial Airplane systems, including the 787 Dreamliner. Boeing now recognizes and relies on IECQ to assure that the strict requirements of IEC TS 62239, Process management for avionics - Preparation of an electronic components management plan are satisfied.
Suppliers achieving IECQ ECMP Certification are seeing the benefits both in terms of ensuring that they comply with IEC TS 62239 and also in satisfying their customers' demand for reliable avionics systems, equipment, and parts.
The IECQ ECMP programme is being used increasingly as part of the supply chain verification in many critical areas of the aviation industry.
Why the IECQ Electronic Component Management Programme?
The avionics industry is largely dependent on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) electronic components, which are designed and produced for other markets, such as consumer electronics, telecommunications, and so forth. The onus is on the aerospace industry to therefore define and document its own processes to assure that the COTS parts used in avionics systems will be reliable.
IECQ offers third-party assessment and certification of compliance to IEC TS 62239, which describes processes that avionics manufacturers must document in a plan before actually using COTS electronic components successfully in aerospace applications. |
