Following the success of the first series of IEC Standards+ courses in Asia, two more training courses were organized in South America at the end of 2009, attracting more than 50 participants. The venues were in Brazil and Argentina.
The host organizations in both countries are recognized professional qualification and certification bodies.
The first training course took place in São Paulo on 5-6 November 2009, jointly hosted by COBEI (Comitê Brasileiro de Eletricidade, Eletrônica, Iluminação e Telecomunicações), the Brazilian National Committee of the IEC, and ABNT (Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas). This first session attracted 20 participants.
The course provided an overall framework of IEC 61508, allowing participants to focus their efforts in the future on the areas of key concern to them. The standard provides a holistic approach to safety critical systems and enables objective judgments to be made about the many aspects necessary for the achievement of functional safety of complex electronic systems.
...and in Buenos Aires.
The second training course was held in Buenos Aires on 9-10 November. It was jointly organized by CEA (Comité Electrotécnico Argentino) the Argentinian National Committee of the IEC, and IRAM (Instituto Argentino de Normalización y Certificación). This session brought together 35 participants.
All courses were provided in English. Thanks to the provision of simultaneous translation, Argentinian participants were able to interact freely and ask questions. Participants generally felt that the course was useful to them in their work and met their expectations. They found the instruction clear and useful, and the atmosphere lively and participative.
