Basic and safety principles for man-machine interface, marking and identification
TC 16 Scope
To prepare standards for general and safety application in the electrotechnical field concerning the man-machine interface, marking and identification in electrical installations and equipment, marking systems and general rules for:- the meanings of colours and alternative means, when used for marking identification,- the arrangement of indicating devices and actuators,- coding principles for indicating and actuating devices,- terminal designation of electrical and electronic components, apparatus and equipment,- the termination designation of certain designated conductors,- marking of electrical and electronic equipment with ratings related to supply and to its properties,- marking of bare and insulated conductors.These standards are principally intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 104: Guide to the drafting of Safety Standards, and the role of committees with Safety Pilot Functions and Safety Group Functions, and in ISO/IEC Guide 51: Guidelines for the inclusion of safety aspects in standards.HORIZONTAL SAFETY FUNCTION: Identification system, relevant to safety (for example, of persons, property, environment) in order to avoid ambiguity and to ensure safe operation, for general use and covering the following:- marking of terminals of electrical equipment,- identification of insulated and bare conductors, for example by marking, colours or numerals,- significance of colours and supplementary means for the coding of indicating devices and actuators,- actuating principles for man-machine interface,- minimum requirements for the marking of electrical equipment with ratings related to electricity supply.
