Objects of conformity assessment

How to carry out CA (conformity assessment) properly, professionally and effectively is itself the subject of International Standards.

In this section, we list three broad categories which can be the object of CA; how CA should be carried out for each type of object is shown in the relevant International Standards.

Product CA

Typically involves the examination of physical characteristics and behaviour (using

Process or management systems CA

Looks at the behaviour of mechanisms or individuals and includes the examination of structures, rules, and documentation. This type of CA typically includes manufacturing processes, and quality and environmental management systems.

CA of a person

The professional role of a person may form the object of a CA that assesses the training, skill and performance of the person against the criteria specified in a standard.
