IEC Programme for developing countries

The Affiliate Coordinator for Africa

The Affiliate Coordinator for Africa assists African Affiliates in using the Affiliate Country Programme to its full extent:

  • Benefit from IEC International Standards and adopt relevant ones as national standards;
  • Participate in the preparation of IEC International Standards by commenting on IEC documents;
  • Make use of IEC Conformity Assessment Systems;
  • Establish their National Electrotechnical Committees.

The Affiliate Coordinator for Africa contributes to the overall operation of the IEC Affiliate Country Programme and liaises with the AFSEC (African Electrotechnical Standardization Commission) on relevant issues.

To meet these objectives, the Coordinator works closely with the Affiliate Leader under the guidance of the Affiliate Secretariat at IEC Central Office. The coordinator collaborates with the relevant African regional organizations (AFSEC, ARSO, ECOWAS, SADC, UEMOA, UPDEA) and reports to the Affiliate Secretary on issues of interest to the Programme.

During IEC General Meetings, the Coordinator works with the Affiliate Leader and the Affiliate Secretary, co-chairs the Affiliate Forum and takes part in any other activities organized for the Affiliate delegations.
