IEC Africa Regional Centre (IEC-AFRC) is the regional focal point for Africa.

Located in Nairobi, Kenya, its overall goal is to motivate more African countries to adopt and use IEC International Standards and Conformity Assessment Systems and to support them in their participation, no matter their level of commitment.

Evah Oduor joined the IEC Regional Centre for Africa, bringing over 30 years of experience in standardization, conformity assessment and metrology. She has been the IEC Coordinator for Africa since 2008 and has greatly supported the IEC Affiliate Country Programme in the region. As well as representing IEC in various forums in Africa, Evah is very active in the African Electrotechnical Standardization Commission (AFSEC) where she is a Second Vice-President and Chair of the AFSEC Conformity Assessment Committee.

François Ahoti, comes to the IEC the from United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), where he was the Chief Technical Advisor for an EU funded project on improving the quality infrastructure in Haiti. With extensive experience in certification, conformity assessment, management systems and quality tools, François also worked for the National Standards Body of Côte d’Ivoire (CODINORM). Additionally, he helped establish and structure the IEC National Electrotechnical Committee of Côte d’Ivoire and then Haiti.

The ultimate aim of IEC-AFRC is to become a centre that helps coordinate IEC work like our other regional centres. It will achieve this by offering training and technical assistance and by raising awareness of IEC International Standards and the IEC Conformity Assessment Systems, both among governments and local industries. It will also provide a link between the IEC and all African countries, supporting all the IEC Members and Affiliate Country Programme participants in the region. Finally, it will work closely with AFSEC, the African Union and all the other regional bodies that are important for African development. The Centre will also help enhance the governmental level of involvement in African countries participating in IEC work.
