A total of 523 publications were produced in 2010, of which 459 were International Standards, 11 were Technical Specifications (for which the consensus was insufficient for the status of an International Standard), 42 were Technical Reports (informative documents), eight were Publicly Available Specifications (industry specifications seeking full consensus) and three were Guides. Of the total, 55% were updates or maintenance, 45% were new projects.
The year’s production brought the total IEC catalogue to 6 271 publications. The average production time for the development of IEC publications was reduced by two months to 31 months, with 66% of all publications produced in less than three years and 29% in three to five years. Korea, Japan, the United States of America, Germany and China were the leading countries proposing the most new work items for standards development.
The average time to prepare FDISs (Final Draft International Standards) for circulation to members for final voting was less than two months, while the publication time, from approval of the FDIS to publication, was less than one month.
In terms of the number of IEC International Standards produced, IEC TC (Technical Committee) 65: Industrial-process measurement, control and automation, was by far the most prolific, producing 87 Standards. It was followed by IEC TC 86: Fibre optics, with 38 publications, IEC TC 48: Electromechanical components and mechanical structures for electronic equipment, with 29 publications, IEC TC 47: Semiconductor devices, with 24 publications and IEC TC 100: Audio, video and multimedia systems and equipment, with 20 publications.
