Smart Grid

The first meeting of SMB (Standardization Management Board) SG 3, the Smart Grid Strategic Group, held in April, focused on need to develop IEC web portal to provide industry with necessary resources, including list of IEC International Standards that are relevant to Smart Grid projects.

The first Smart Grid framework released in IEC web portal – the one stop resource for anyone involved in Smart Grid projects – is available on the IEC website since summer 2009. The first framework as it appears on the web portal identifies a number of relevant International Standards and IEC TCs/SCs whose work is essential to the development of an IEC Smart Grid platform.

Further identification of relevant International Standards and TCs is ongoing.

SG 3 was invited by NIST to a Smart Grid Workshop in August. Goal of the workshop: to engage Standards Development Organizations in addressing standard-related priorities. IEC International Standards recognized as being crucial in development of NIST roadmap. IEC agreed to actively support identified and prioritized action fields. SG3 agreed to review some 60 International Standards identified by NIST at its November meeting.
