IEC CAB (Conformity Assessment Board), IAF (International Accreditation Forum) and ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) developed stronger ties. A new model of assessment collaboration – the common pool model – was elaborated and agreed upon, whereby the IEC CA Systems will provide ILAC and IAF with their reassessment plans for 2010. A tripartite Steering Committee was also established to deal with policy and strategy issues. Pierre de Ruvo, IECEE Executive Secretary, was appointed Chairman of the Steering Committee.
To carry out CAB responsibilities in an optimal fashion and permit strategic implementation of the Masterplan, some of the Basic Rules of the Systems have been improved. A risk management tool has been developed and studies on possible measures to combat counterfeit products have been initiated.
Global promotion of IEC CA Systems has been stepped up and CAB continues its close work with ISO/CASCO, the ISO's policy development committee on conformity assessment.
The CAB is focusing on future challenges:
- Aim to identify and meet the needs of new markets
- Explore conformity assessment in energy efficiency and for renewable energy sources
- Increase global reach for conformity assessment to developing countries.
